MOUNT VERNON — Eileen Rosella Hess went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Dec. 5, 2010.
Eileen was 87 years old and was born in Danville, Jefferson Township, Ohio, the oldest child of the late Victor and Clio Edith (White) Hess. She was preceded in death by her sister, Judy E. (Hess) Herbst; brothers, Dean M. Hess and John W. Hess.
Eileen is survived by her sisters, Patricia (Stu) Edgar of Winter Park, Fla., Eva Marie (Reed) Zimmerman of Brooksville, Fla., and Delores “Dee” (John) Timms of Mount Vernon; special niece, Dr. Darlene Hess, Ph.D., of Albuquerque, N.M., Darren and Damon Summers of Montgomery, Ala., Ron and Judy Hess of Howard, Kathy Scarberry of Marengo, Don and Debbie Hess of Howard, niece, Sharlene and Robert Neuman of Mansfield, Aaron and Cullen Neuman of Mansfield, niece, Beth and David Edger of Florida, niece, Lisa Zimmerman of South Carolina, Laura and Gary Wolfe of St. Lucie, Fla.; brother-in-law, Robert Herbst of Massillon; nephews, Robert, Raymond and Rick of Massillon and immediate family; niece, Keitha and Mike Sorenson of Pensacola, Fla., nephew, Stephen Stanley and Diana McGraw II of Marietta, twins Michael and David McGraw of Marietta, nephew James and Lorran Holland of Tampa, FL, nieces, Bethany and Heather Holland of Delaware, Deana and Tim McKinstry of Howard, Brian and Hillery Hess of Howard, Sherrie and Ken Spenser of Mansfield, Darla and Matt Smith of Mansfield; special friends, Dr. LeBron and Anne, Stephen Fairbanks of Kansas City, Mo., and her many Nazarene family of friends.
Eileen graduated from Olivet Nazarene College and Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 1983 at the age 70, she finished her degree and was the oldest to do so. She was a secretary her entire life, from the First Church of Tucson, Ariz., to Santa Ana, Calif., First Church to Headquarters in Kansas City, Mo. She returned from the West to Mount Vernon to work at the college, later with Dr. Cummings of Lakeholm Nazarene Church, which she was a member, in her last 35 years, she resided with her close and dear friend, Norma Ickes, until her illness in 2000.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where a funeral of celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, with the Rev. John M. Timms presiding. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery, Fredericktown.
