MOUNT VERNON — Carl E. Ryan, 70, of Mount Vernon, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, surrounded by his family, at the Whispering Hill Care Center in Mount Vernon following a 10-year battle with cancer.
Carl was born Sept. 12, 1940, in Mount Vernon to Dwight E. and Mary (Vernon) Ryan and had spent his lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. Carl owned and operated Ryan Refuse Service in Knox County for 18 years. He was a member of the Crossway Fellowship Church near Newark. Carl was a NASCAR enthusiast, and although he enjoyed traveling in his motor home his main passion in life was his family.
Surviving are his wife, Blanche (May) Ryan, whom he married April 30, 1959; his son, John (Teresa) Ryan of Mount Vernon; his daughter, Carla (special friend Joel Wheaton) Devore of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Jessica (special friend Don Perkins) Ryan, Ryan Devore, Micayla Devore, Christian Ryan, Michelle Gordon (her children, David, Haley, Maggie), Laura Gordon, Christopher Muller; great-granddaughter, Jaydon Danals; his brother, Donald (Bea) Ryan of Mount Vernon; and his sister, Sandy (Ralph) Brooks of Fredericktown.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Tuesday, Dec. 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Conley officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
