SPRINGBORO — Fred E. Erlanger, 78, of Springboro, formerly of Springfield, died peacefully in his sleep at 1:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, in his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Dec. 16, 1932, in Guntersblum, Germany, to Lothar and Minna (Heiss) Erlanger. Fred retired in 1994 as an industrial engineer from Navistar after 30 years of service. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School, attended Wittenberg University, and was a U.S. Air Force Korean conflict veteran. Fred enjoyed traveling, many forms of physical exercise, but especially loved spending time with his wife, his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Robby (Curry); five children and spouses, Vicky (Bob) Erlanger Vollmer, Springboro, Steve (Elaine) Erlanger, Vero Beach, Fla., Linda Erlanger Dolan, Springboro, Lana (Tom) Mitchell, Plano, Texas, and Craig (Leigh Ann) Erlanger, Mount Laurel, N.J.; 11 grandchildren, Michael Whip, Matthew and Austin Erlanger, Chad Dolan, Trey, Leah, Jenna and Faith Mitchell, Seth, Jered and Ryan Erlanger; three sisters, Hannalore Jewell, Van Nuys, Calif., Margo Waddell, Mount Vernon, and Essie Tarbis, Fairfield; a brother, Ed (Evelyn) Erlanger, Columbus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Conroy Funeral Home, 1660 E. High St., Springfield. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Cremation to follow.
