FREDERICKTOWN — Forrest W. Ruhl, 91, of Waterford Road, Fredericktown, passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 17, 1919, in Fredericktown to the late Harry and Margaret (Richards) Ruhl. Forrest was a 1937 graduate of Fredericktown High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Forrest retired in 1985 from the Mansfield Reformatory and also farmed the family land. He was a member of the Batemantown United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 500 and belonged to the Wayne Grange for over 70 years. Forrest enjoyed bowling and dart ball and served as an advisor for the 4-H Saddle Club. He was one of the original members of the Fredericktown FFA.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eleanor (Willits) Ruhl; his children, Kathryn (Lawrence) McGinnis of Mount Vernon, Elaine (Kenneth) Sutherland of Marion, Marilyn (Stephen) Reed of Fredericktown, Irl (Jane) Ruhl of Fredericktown, Margaret Ann Ruhl of Mount Vernon and Carole Davis of Fredericktown; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Arvene “Beanie” (Jacqueline) Ruhl of Fredericktown.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Leona Simmons, Evadine Swihart and Bonita “Bonnie” Ruhl.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Batemantown United Methodist Church, 7974 Yankee St., Fredericktown, OH 43019. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Northfork Cemetery.
