MOUNT VERNON — Paulina Mazza, 91, of Hillcrest Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born April 18, 1919, in Coshocton, to the late Frank Costanza and Minnie (Mills) Prine. Paulina co-owned Amos and Andy’s with her first husband, Homer Kramer, and was a co-founder of Mazza’s Restaurant. She was an avid fan of horse racing and her two prized horses, Ben Ash and Mr. Ridgewood. Paulina was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Paulina loved her family and will be missed by many.
She is survived by her three grandchildren, Travis Mazza of Washington, D.C., Mike (Lisa) Mazza II of Howard and Tony Mazza of Las Vegas, Nev.; three great-grandchildren, Aron and John Mazza and Alexis Mazza; a daughter-in-law, Dana (Ron) Aaron of Medina; a stepdaughter, Camille Compton Solie of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, Margaret Mazza; many stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; mother; and stepfather, Grant Ulysses Prine; her loving husband, Joseph C. Mazza Sr.; a son, Michael J. Mazza Sr.; a stepson, Joseph “JoJo” Mazza; and a stepdaughter, Jollene Lybarger.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where a Rosary will follow at 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond will be celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
