MOUNT VERNON — Edna M. Shafer, 78, of Mount Vernon, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Edna was born March 21, 1932, in Morrow County to Charles W. and Eva Mae (Squires) Bockover and had spent her lifetime in the Morrow and Knox County areas. Edna enjoyed farm life and was active in church, PTO, Farm Bureau, garden club, sports, politics and singing with Dogwood Blossom Chapter of Sweet Adelines. She had been employed by Producers Livestock Association, Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, and had served as Clinton Township Clerk for 12 years.
Surviving are her husband, Harold “Red” Shafer; sons, Ned (Janet) Shafer, Joe (Sheila) Shafer and Jeff (Pam) Shafer, all of the Mount Vernon area; the special gifts of her life granddaughters, Samantha Shafer, Ashley (Jeff) Morris and Heidi (Shain) Blecick; her brother-in-law, Ralph L. (Ursula) Shafer of Salado, Texas; and a niece, Peggy Gaddis of Howard.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ramon Bockover; and a sister, Anna Bockover.
There will be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be held at Bloomfield Cemetery near Sparta.
