MOUNT VERNON — Mary E. Mawer, 90, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Mary was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Galion to Charles E. and Margaret J. (Steigwalt) Stevens. She was raised in the Church of God faith and had been attending the Apple Valley-Amity Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Shirley (Richard) Bayless and Barbara Byrd, both of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren, including the grandchildren she raised, Tracy (Cathy) Mawer of Howard and Tammy (Robert) Sherrill of Bellville; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Singer of Mansfield and Dorothy Bennett of Zephyr Hills, Fla.
Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald R. Mawer; her sons, Jerry Mawer, Ronald Earl Mawer and Richard Mawer; brothers, Donald Stevens and Gerald Stevens; and sisters, Betty O’Brien, Bonnie Beeman, Viola Schribling and Maggie Stevens.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Amity Cemetery.
