CUYAHOGA FALLS — Virginia R. Zajdel, 93, passed away Jan. 6, 2011, after a long and fruitful life.
Born in Pitcairn, Pa., on Feb. 7, 1917, to Homer and Hilda Berkey, she earned a BA in music education from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa. A talented musician, she taught piano for several years. Virginia was a longtime Cuyahoga Falls resident, and had been a member of St. Joseph Parish since 1957.
Preceded in death by husband, Walter, in 1975; grandson, Victor Haydu; and sisters, Catherine Casey and Madeleine Ruby.
Survived by sons, Michael W. of Cuyahoga Falls, Robert (Pamela) and Jeffrey (Deborah) both of California; daughters, Jacqueline Haydu of Akron and Germaine (John) Darmstadt of Mount Vernon; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Monday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 810 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls. Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 10:30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by interment at Northlawn Cemetery.
Donations are requested to the Legionaires of Christ or St. Joseph School.
