CENTERBURG — Cedric N. “Ced” Coonfare, 79, of Centerburg went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, Jan. 9, 2011, at his residence.
He was born April 29, 1931, in Centerburg to the late Dee and Hazel (Barr) Coonfare. He was a lifelong resident of the Centerburg area and a graduate of Centerburg High School. He was a member of the Milford Church of Christ where he was a former deacon. He was a U.S. Army Korean conflict veteran serving in England. Ced was a farmer growing grain and raising hogs from 1955-90 when he retired from farming.
Ced was a servant to the residents of Knox County holding many public offices throughout his lifetime. A Hilliar Township Trustee for 21 years, Knox County Commissioner from 1993-97, chairman of the Board of Directors for MOTA, Board of Directors for DKMM Solid Waste District, Hilliar Township Zoning Board, County Regional Planning Commission, Delaware Rural Electric Board of Trustees, Ohio Rural Electric Board of Trustees, Head Start Board of Directors, Station Break Board of Directors, Member of the Centerburg/Hilliar Township Volunteer Fire Department (COJFD), Volunteer for Big Brothers, Oldtime Farm Festival Marshal in 2003.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Dusz) Coonfare, and they were married March 30, 2002, in Centerburg; stepdaughter, Jill (Albert) Bailey of Kentucky; grandchildren, Aaron and Elizabeth Bailey; brother, Donald (Mary) Coonfare of West Jefferson; and a special relationship with Nelson (Meredith) Shuff, Vicki (Mark) Ervin, Kim (Doug) Tenzos.
He was preceded by brother, Russell Coonfare.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury. Funeral service will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at the Milford Church of Christ, 3648 Johnstown Road, Centerburg. Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery.
