MOUNT VERNON — Gilbert E. Riley, 62, of Adamson Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

He was born April 22, 1948, in Barbour County, W.Va., to the late Gilbert and Wilma (Lipscomb) Riley. Gilbert was proud to have served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam. He worked for the City of Mount Vernon as a police officer and for the Division of Water and Wastewater. Gilbert attended The Salvation Army Church and enjoyed spending time at the shooting range and attending drag racing events.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Judy (Simpson) Riley; a son, Pat (Darcy Cross) Riley of Mount Vernon; a granddaughter, Jenna Riley; a sister, Judy (Gary) Wyatt of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and a half brother, Johnny Doody of Mount Angel, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Salvation Army Church where a funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Major Robert Bender will be officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
