MOUNT VERNON — Sylvia M. Carder, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Carrollton, Ohio, to Fred and Daisy (Minor) Leggett. Sylvia was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Hill Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Michael) Kiser of Mount Vernon; son-in-law, Raymond Horne Sr. of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren, Tonia Lukas, Linda Purdy, Raymond Horne, Brandon Styndl, Christopher Kiser and Jeremy Kiser; great-grandchildren, Renee Henry, Natalie Purdy, Brian Purdy, James Lukas, Melissa Francis, Vincent Kiser, Gabriel Kiser, Lydia Styndl and Harley Styndl; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Carder; and a daughter, Betty Horne.

Friends may call Saturday, Jan. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ron Vozar officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
