MOUNT VERNON — Robert S. Burdette, 86, a longtime resident of Mount Vernon, died Jan. 12, 2011, at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg, S.C., after a long illness.

Robert was born in Cleveland to Mr. Ira O. and Cora Dickerson Burdette. He was a 1943 graduate of Mount Vernon Academy. He owned and operated “Bob’s Garage” for many years and later was employed by Harvard Corp. in sales and installation of oil filtration systems. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Seventh-day Adventist Hill Church and very active in the Mount Vernon Academy Alumni Association. He was a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; two daughters, Judy Marshall of Spartanburg, S.C., and Bonny Friedrich of Nipomo, Calif.; and two grandsons, Jason and Jared Friedrich.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Xander, Betty Cosner and Jean Larsen.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Robert S. Burdette.
