GAMBIER — Valdo E. Fawcett, 88, of Gambier, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 25, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born July 13, 1922, in Gambier to John B. and Gladys (Wright) Fawcett. Valdo was a World War II Navy veteran, a former Harrison Township Trustee, a past 4-H advisor and a Mason with the Ohio Lodge 199 in Bladensburg.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Wilma (McCurdy) Fawcett; his son and daughter-in-law, David (Betty) Fawcett of Celeste, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Fawcett of Gambier; four grandchildren, Doug (Reiko) Fawcett, Janet Morrison, Sam (Eryn) Fawcett and Andy Fawcett; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean (Norman) Hollis of Pryor, Okla.

Valdo was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Roger E. Fawcett.

Friends may call Friday, Jan. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where Masonic service will follow at 7 p.m. by Ohio Lodge 199. Graveside funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Union Grove Cemetery in Gambier, with Bob Pelfrey officiating. Military graveside honors will be performed by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
