MOUNT VERNON — Elden E. Maurer, 86, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Heartland of Centerburg.

He was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Baltic to Elmer and Vera (Close) Maurer. He was retired from Peabody Broken Arrow Coal Mine. He attended the Waterford Church of Christ, and was a member of the Dan Emmett Grange and the Coshocton County Farm Bureau.

Elden is survived by his children, Shirley (Roy) Atherton of Butler, James R. (Cindy) Maurer of Centerburg and Judy (Brian) Edwards of Johnstown; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl (Smith) Maurer, on Feb. 11, 1992; his son, Edward Maurer; a brother, Thomas Maurer; and a sister, Alberta Moran.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at Coshocton County Memory Gardens on Ohio 621. Darryn Dawes will officiate.
