MOUNT VERNON — Robert Grover Mowery, 67, of Rose Avenue, Mount Vernon, died Jan. 26, 2011, at his residence.

He was born June 21, 1943, in Mount Vernon to the late Norbert Lester and Faye E. (Stringfellow) Mowery. He was a truck driver and sign maker for the Richland County Highway Department. He was a member of the Elks Club 140 of Mount Vernon, Order of Owls of Mansfield and Colonial City Moose 2555 of Mount Vernon.

He is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Honorary pallbearers for Robert are Marvin and Charles Strong, Randy and Eddie Musick, Anthony Lewis and Jimmie Rhoades.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Joan M. Strong; and a brother, Jack E. Mowery.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at the Workman Cemetery in Danville with Pastor Ron Davis officiating. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling the arrangements.
