GRAND LEDGE, Mich. — June M. McMillen Israel, 92, of Grand Ledge, Mich., formerly of Mount Vernon, died Thursday morning, Jan. 27, 2011, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Mich.
She was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Utica, a daughter of the late Daniel H. and Daisy D. (Lohr) McMillen. June was a co-owner of the former Israel Photography with her husband James. June was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon, where she was a church school teacher. She was also a member of the Knox County Historical Society and the Old Homestead Club.
June and James moved to Michigan in 1961, when James accepted a position at General Motors in Detroit. While there, June was active in Girl Scouts and the Christian Education program at Christ Church Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills. June and James returned to Mount Vernon in 1993 following James’ retirement, and June moved to Michigan to live with her daughter and her family in 2006.
June is survived by her daughter, Amy (Graham) Crabtree of Grand Ledge, Mich.; and grandchildren, Elizabeth, James and Daniel.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Israel, in 1997; three brothers; and two sisters.
The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon.
A memorial service celebrating June’s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 100 E. High St., Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Karl Stevens officiating. A private burial ceremony will be held in Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier.
