FREDERICKTOWN — Alice M. Gaddis Pittenger, 91, of Miami Avenue, Fredericktown, passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Oct. 12, 1919, in North Liberty to the late Percy and Effie (Gower) Crunkilton. Alice worked as a cook for 13 years in the Fredericktown school system. She was a member of the Lexington Senior Citizens and the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bellville. In her free time, Alice enjoyed cooking and baking. She will be sadly missed by her loving family.
She is survived by a daughter, Vivian (Charles) Hill of Fredericktown; four sons, Harmon (Rita) Gaddis of Mount Vernon, Delmis (Terry) Gaddis of Fredericktown, Donley (Deborah) Gaddis of Cardington and Randy (Lisa Pierce) Gaddis of Albany, Mo.; a stepson, Chet (Jeannie) Pittenger of Bellville; two stepdaughters, Sheri (Carl) Bricker of Mansfield and Leslie (Lowell) Balliett of Bellville; nine grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 17 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald (Helen) Crunkilton of Mount Vernon.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clark Gaddis; her second husband, Carlos “Curt” Pittenger; four brothers, Dale Crunkilton, Sterl Crunkilton, Virgil Crunkilton and Percy Crunkilton; and two sisters, Dorothy Stone and Vera Richert.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 48 Church St., Bellville, OH 44813. The Rev. Douglas J. Pretorious will be officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
