FREDERICKTOWN — William “Bill” Beheler, 78, of Fredericktown, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at his residence following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Bill was born May 31, 1932, in Morrow County and had spent his lifetime in the Fredericktown area. He graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1950 where he was active with the basketball and baseball teams. Bill served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.

He had been employed at Updike’s Service Station in Fredericktown prior to his service in the Marines, and was employed for 30 years by First-Knox National Bank, where he retired in 1992 as vice president and manager of the Fredericktown branch. He was also a graduate of the Ohio School of Banking.

He was a member of the Palmyra Church of Christ, VFW, active with the Fredericktown Little League, Junior Achievement, United Community Fund and United Way. Bill served with the former Community Trust now The Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golf and watching sports on all levels. He found pride and comfort in refinishing furniture and working on his lawn projects, and loved getting away to the beach at North Carolina. He cherished the time he spent with friends and his passion was time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Sue (Herdman) Beheler, whom he married April 8, 1955; his children, Thomas (Karen) Beheler of Sullivan, Ill., Christi (Fortino) Ramirez of Reynoldsburg and Michael Beheler of Danville; grandchildren, Justin (Amanda) Welch; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Welch and Schuylar Welch; his brother, Wendell (Margaret) Beheler of Mount Vernon; and sisters, Wanda Seymour of Newark and Linda (Thomas) Robinson of Heath.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth (Hickson) Beheler.

Friends may call today, Feb. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown, where funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m., with Don Linn officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
