HOWARD — Frieda Louise Patterson, 87, of Howard, passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at her home.
She was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Cleveland, a daughter of the late Frank J. and Sophia (Rembacz) Diglis. Frieda was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mount Vernon and served as a Deaconess and secretary of the board. Prior to that she belonged to the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Lorain, where she was Directress of the Altar Guild for 15 years. She was also was a member of the Avon Junior Women’s Club and held office as secretary and president. She was a member of the Cleveland Messiah Civic Chorus and served on the Board of Trustees and was a charter member of the Cleveland Toastmistress Club. In Mount Vernon she was a member and treasurer of the Beethoven Club. Before retirement, Frieda worked for the North Olmsted City Schools as a bus driver and was a secretary at Cleveland State University. For 12 years, she worked at Kenyon College as secretary to the dean of students. Frieda had a great love for the opera and classical music. She also enjoyed traveling and working in her flower gardens.
Frieda is survived by her sons, David J. (Leslie) Patterson of Howard and Daniel R. (Nancy) Patterson of Cleveland; and grandchildren, Allison, Cody, Mitchell, Philip and Julia.
In addition to her parents, Frieda was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Dick Patterson; a son, Dale Patterson; sisters, Eve Stuehr, Roseanne Woidke, Frances Andrews and Jean Weber; and a brother, Walter Diglis.
The family will have a memorial service celebrating the life of Frieda at a later date at the First Christian Church.
