MOUNT VERNON — Melina T. Amicon, 99, of Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
She was born Sept. 24, 1911, in Arnold, Pa., a daughter of the late Crescenzio “Sam” and Maria Teresa (Rossi) Perotti. Melina worked for the former Ringwalt’s Department Store for 28 years and Pitkin’s Corner in Mount Vernon. She also worked for the Mount Vernon News. Melina was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon and the Ladies of the Moose Lodge 824. She loved activities with her family and she enjoyed dancing.
Melina is survived by nieces, Sharon (Jim) Zak of Gambier, Teresa (Jim) Sewall and Mary (Gordon) Hayes of Mount Vernon; nephews, John (Debbie) Pribonic of Mount Vernon, and Charles (Maxine) Andreas of Powell; great-nieces, Gena, Amy, Andrea, Tara and Beverly; great-nephews, Matt, Mark, Ty, Curt, Jacob and Josh; and 18 great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Melina was preceded in death by her first husband, Leslie W. Miller; her second husband, Charles Amicon; sisters, Ada Giulioli and Rose Pribonic; a brother, Geno Perotti; and a nephew, Mario Giulioli.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where the rosary will be recited following the calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon with the Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
