MOUNT VERNON — Everett Watkins, 82, of Airport Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 28, 1928, in Greenup, Ky., to the late Morris and Mae (Travis) Watkins. Everett retired in 1991 after 39 years of employment with Copeland Refrigeration in Sydney. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed playing the guitar. Everett attended the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene and the Church of God on Henry Road.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Hatcher) Watkins, whom he married on April 8, 1950; a son, Ken (Elayne) Watkins of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Ondalee (Roy) Roberts-Sipe of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Lynsey (Curtis) Patrick, Amanda Watkins, Bethany (Brent) Hohenberger, Lori (Tim) Lybarger and Sean Michael Roberts; three great-grandchildren, Collin Lybarger, Rylin Lybarger and Seth Roberts; four sisters, Norma Kendall of Urbana, and Phyllis Dunlevy, Peggy (Pete) Winnenberger and Janet (Tom) Jenks, all of Springfield.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leslie, Freeman and Ralph Watkins; six sisters, Josephine Dunn, Lucille Watkins, Iomah Reed, Glenna Evans, Lillian Ridder and Wilma Jean Rupert.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Union Cemetery in De Graff, Ohio. Pastor Jason Harding will be officiating.
