MOUNT VERNON — Paul D. Nethers, 88, of Mount Vernon, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Rocky Fork, son of the late Kearney and Minnie (Lienhart) Nethers. Paul was a retired insurance salesman for Western-Southern Life Insurance. He was an Army veteran serving during World War II. Paul was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mount Vernon, the Mount Vernon Elks, Colonial City Moose, the AMVETS and the VFW.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Michael) Dehaven of Mount Vernon; sons, Richard (Holly) Nethers of Fort Smith, Ark., and Dave (Robyn) Nethers of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Lori (Clint) Sands, Dirk (Carrie) Nethers, Amy (Chris) Cyrus, Staci DeHaven, Cody Nethers, Cord Nethers and Kyle Nethers; great-grandchildren, Samantha Sands, Richard Sands, Steven Sands, Bayli Ruark, Tony Ruark, Autumn Cyrus, Nathan Nethers and Shelby Plummer; and sisters, Patricia Ritchey and Lucille Young of Newark.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie L. Nethers; grandson, Michael D. DeHaven Jr.; brothers, Kenneth, Warren, Donald, James and Vernon Nethers; and sisters, Vera Rakestraw, Herma Swick and Pearl Parsons.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
