MOUNT VERNON — Doris Crouser Eckberg, 87, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, in the Palliative Care Unit at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

She was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Rivesville, W.Va., daughter of the late Harvey and Dorothy (Musgrave) Crouser. Doris is a member of Harvest Christian Center in Mount Vernon. She graduated from Rivesville High School, West Virginia Business College and Summa Cum Laude from Columbus University, Columbus, Ga., with a BFA degree.

While living in Columbus, Ga., most of her life, she belonged to the Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Society, Columbus Artist’s Guild and the Exchangette Club.

Doris was a member of Edgewood United Methodist Church, the Chalice Class, United Methodist Women, the Koinonia Group, and S.G.S Class.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynette Eckberg Beroth (husband, Jim) of Mount Vernon; a son, Robert Charles Eckberg (wife, Trish) of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Frances Crouser Valentine (widow, husband was Roy) of Rivesville, W.Va., and Sue Crouser Shuster (husband, Ronald) of Stonewood, W.Va.; also a brother, Darwin Smith Crouser of Cuyahoga Falls. She has five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Norman Eckberg; and a brother, Kenneth Leroy Crouser.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of her funeral service at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, with Pastor Dan Lund and Dr. Paul Dove officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
