MOUNT VERNON — Jack C. White, 88, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center. He had been a resident of the center since 1978 and was the center’s oldest resident.
Jack was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Clarksburg, W.Va., the eldest son of Stark and Essie (Adkins) White. Due to severe birth defects, he was dependent upon the loving care of others throughout his life; and responded by blessing all who attended him with his simple spirit of gratitude, good humor and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and Ronald; and brother-in-law, Lewis Gilbert.
He is survived by brothers, Paul (Nanette) of Marion and Wallace (Carol) of Delaware; sister, Rudelle Gilbert of Mount Gilead; and many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Mary Risher of Orlando, Fla., and Margaret West of Marion; and the devoted care staff of Rian No. 9 at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center, who treated Jack as their very own family member.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 29, at 2:30 p.m. in Rian Hall at the Center, 1250 Vernonview Drive in Mount Vernon, with Pastor Wallace White officiating. A private inurnment service will be held at a later date at the Marion Cemetery.
