SPRINGHILL, Fla. — John J. “Joey” Davis Jr., 64, passed away March 11, 2011, at Heron Point Nursing Center, Brooksville, Fla. He was an active member of Victorious Life Church in Springhill, Fla.
Joey was born Dec. 25, 1947, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to John “Joe” and Mary (Ott) Davis. Shortly after graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1966, Joey joined the Navy where he was an aviation mechanic. He did two tours in Vietnam working on the flight deck of the USS Coral Sea and USS Enterprise. After completing his service in the Navy he moved to Florida where he worked as a sub contractor building homes. He recently had been employed by MI Homes as a supervisor. Joey was an avid car guy and attended several car shows. In the ’90s he showed his 1974 TVR at the World of Wheels car show in Tampa, Fla., where it took first place in its class.
Surviving are his wife of six years, Angie; mother, Mary (Ed) Ebert of Florida; stepmother, Ruth Davis of Mount Vernon, Ohio; son, Justin (Stacie) of Virginia; two daughters, Stephanie (Sean) Byrne and Heather (Anthony) Zammetti of Florida; two stepsons, Troy and Sean of Florida; four grandchildren, Kasandra and Kegan Davis of Virginia, Kyler Byrne and Ryland Zammetti; three brothers, David Davis (Heidi) of Virginia, Steven (Theresa) and Greg (Sue) Davis of Mount Vernon; sister, Johanna (Jimmy) Litt of Mount Vernon; nieces and nephews, Lori (Bruce) Flowers of New Jersey, Christopher and Cody Davis of Virginia, and Sara Davis, Michael Davis, Trevor Davis, Samantha Davis, Treg Davis and Casey Litt of Mount Vernon.
Joey was preceded in death by his father, John J. Davis Sr.; and his brother, Jeff Davis.
A memorial service will be held at Victorious of Life Church on Saturday, March 19, in Springfield, Fla.
