MOUNT VERNON — James A. Goudy, 79, of Everview Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at his home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1932, in Strasburg, Ohio, to the late John and Floretta (Wise) Goudy. James served in the U.S. Navy before working for Kroger and eventually retiring in 1998 as a financial advisor for Community National Assurance. He was a member of Mount Zion Lodge 9 F&AM. James enjoyed building model ships and doing yard work, but most important to him was the quality time he spent with his loving grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara (Hulse) Goudy; his children, Dr. James Goudy of Galion, Greg (Kimberly) Goudy of Mount Vernon and Kris (Todd) Conant of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren, Kate and Torrie Goudy, Greg Goudy Jr., Lara Wygle, Lindsey and Erika Conant; and a brother, John (Shirley) Goudy of Hudson, Fla.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy McNulty.
Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Vineyard Church of Knox County, 806 Harcourt Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. Pastor Jerry Stevens will be officiating. The family will observe a private graveside service.
