MOUNT VERNON — Ronald Poland, 87, of Mount Vernon, passed away March 23, 2011, at Country Club Retirement Center.

Ron was born May 14, 1927, to Lewis and Mildred (Ryan) Poland. Ron was employed by Continental Can in the Quality Control Department.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, whom he married Dec. 18, 1949; and his daughter, Pamela Poland of Youngstown.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Darrel, Ben, Rollo “Waddy” and Leo.

Ron was a 53-year member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Ron served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines. Ron enjoyed many things in life, including restoring antique furniture, walking the Kakosing Gap Trail, and listening to music.

Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dilley-Laster Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., where funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Sharon Kiesel officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
