MOUNT VERNON — Marilyn Joyce Crawford, 79, of Mount Vernon, died Friday, March 25, 2011, in Knox Community Hospital.
She was born Jan. 4, 1932, in Jelloway to the late Royal C. and Velma V. (Fletcher) Shira. Joyce was a member at Ebenezer United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Dixie Model A Club. She was a former member of Mulberry U.M. Church where she was active with the youth group and C.A.T.S.
On July 3, 1950, in Crown Point, Ind., Joyce married George H. Crawford and he preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 2003. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Wayne, Gerald, R. Donald and Roger Shira; and two sisters, Jeanne Lightner and Adah Carrothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Crawford and Deborah (Mark) Steinhauser; three grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Hatton, Lori Beth Hatton and Brett (Robyn) Steinhauser; five granddaughters, Elisha, Hannah and Jessica Hatton, Samara Hatton and Lillian Steinhauser; two brothers, Ralph (Doris) Shira and K. Dean (Linda) Shira; two sisters, Kathleen (Kurt) Wickenrieder and Janet (Wayland) Stricker; sister-in-law, Phyllis Shira; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Monday, March 28, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., where the funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Susan Stevens officiating. The burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery.
