MOUNT VERNON — Layton L. Ressler, 91, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born Jan. 3, 1920, in Cooperstown, N.D., to the late Joe and Elma (Thone) Ressler. Layton retired in 1982 after 37 years of employment as an ink matcher for the former Ludlow/Continental Can Co. in Mount Vernon. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge.

Layton is survived by his son, Kenneth (Sandy Miller) Ressler of Mount Vernon; daughters, Janet (Tom) Jarrett of Americus, Ga., and Karen (Rusty Drane) Ressler of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and stepchildren, Janet (Ernie) Rehling, Greta Banbury and the Rev. Robert (Carrie) Baker.

In addition to his parents, Layton was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Ressler; second wife, Margaret Ressler; and brothers, Everett and Rollin Ressler.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 31, at 4 p.m. at the Grace Brethren Church, 12426 Old Mansfield Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
