MOUNT VERNON — Marjorie Knouff, 92, passed away March 25, 2011, at Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
She was born in Mount Vernon on June 19, 1918. And though she called Mount Vernon home throughout her life, Marjorie explored the world around her and remained active in her community, her church and in the lives of her friends and neighbors for as long as she lived.
Marjorie managed the home she shared with her beloved husband, Donald, while Donald spent days working at the former Continental Can Corp. When the need arose, Marjorie would work as a nurse or nurse’s aid. She lived with Donald in the same house for more than 60 years up until two weeks before her passing.
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Donald Knouff, of Mount Vernon; daughter, Ann (Dennis) Tennant of Copley, Ohio; and son, Thomas (Beverly) Knouff of Copley, Ohio. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brent Knouff, Thomas Tennant, Aimee Ratcliff, Meredith Rafter, Joseph Tennant, Matthew Knouff and Elizabeth Burgin; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Thomas and Nora (Shrimplin) Higgins; as well as three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call Friday evening, April 1, from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon with the Revs. Karl Stevens and Diane Cook officiating.
