MOUNT VERNON — Arlo Paul Pealer, 87, of North Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011, surrounded by his family at the Knox Community Hospital.

He was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Mount Vernon to the late Archie and Mary (McDonald) Pealer. Arlo was employed at Sears Roebuck for over 30 years and also by Clever Lumber in Mount Vernon. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church here in Mount Vernon and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Arlo was a graduate of The Ohio State University and was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Martha (Harris) Pealer; three sons, Judson (Sandra) Pealer of Rangeley, Maine, George (Lynda) Pealer of Dublin and John Pealer of Columbus; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Arlo was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Gail Pealer; a sister, Lois Coon; and his grandson, Ryan Pealer.

Friends may call Thursday, March 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will be held Friday beginning at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Karl Stevens officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans’ Council, will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
