MOUNT VERNON — Hazel Maxine Peters, 89, of Mount Vernon, passed away April 4, 2011, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home where she had been a resident since 2003.

She was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Maple Heights to the late Harry North and Hazel E. (Mills) North. Maxine was a member in good standing of Knox Chapter 236, Order of the Eastern Star. She was past worthy matron in 1967; president of District 12 Ohio Eastern Star in 1972; grand representative to North Dakota in 1973-1974 and secretary in 1981-1982.

She is survived by her daughter, Maxine V. Brakebill of Cleveland, Tenn.; a brother Edgar L. North of Northfield; several grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert H. Peters; a son, Robert M. Peters, on July 26, 2007; daughter, Leatrice Peters, on Dec. 8, 2010; a grandson, Robert Welker; three sisters; and three brothers.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where an Eastern Star Service will begin at 6:45 p.m. conducted by the Knox Chapter 236 OES. Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jonathon Fettig officiating.
