LOCK — Gordon Lee Shuff, 90, of Lock, passed away Monday, April 4, 2011, at Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
Born April 21, 1920, in Hartford Township to the late Russell and Vera (Dove) Shuff, Gordon made his home with Lewis and Bessie (Shuff) Hawkins from age 12 until his marriage.
Survived by loving wife of 70 years, Marjorie (Myers) Shuff; children, Bill (Judy) Shuff and Mike (Sharon) Shuff of Centerburg, Karen (Richard) Linkous of South Carolina; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by sister, Kathleen; and brothers, Bill, Ed (Bud) and Dick.
He was a graduate and valedictorian of Croton High School in 1938. Charter member of Centerburg Conservation Club. Member of Lock Church since age 12 and served in the capacity of treasurer for many years and also served as Sunday school superintendent. Gordon was a lifelong farmer, retired rural mail carrier for 28 years at the Centerburg Post Office, employed by Chapman Poultry for many years, and owned and operated the Lock General Store with his wife, Marjorie, for 11 years. He was also a member of the Milford Grange and held many offices during his 75-year membership and also was a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Organization. Gordon was a gentle and kind man who always had the time to help his neighbors, friends and family.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, 49 W. Church St., Centerburg, where service will be held Friday, April 8, at 11 a.m. Roger Crego, minister, will officiate. Interment in Lock Cemetery.
