GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Rev. Robert Floyd Darr, 77, of George Junior Road, Grove City, Pa., died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, of an apparent heart attack in Richland Township, Venango County, Pa.
He was born in Jelloway, Knox County, on June 20, 1933, the son of Simon and Minnie Rose (Marsh) Darr. He married Layoma (Keen) on June 24, 1961. He retired in 1997 from Cooper Energy Services, where he was a material analyst for 42 years. He started his career at Cooper in the Mount Vernon plant when he was 18 and moved to Grove City, Pa., in 1983. The Rev. Darr was a member of Emlenton Light House Church of the Nazarene.
He was a veteran with the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Loudonville High School. He started studying to become a minister in the early ’80s and had been an active pastor and formerly served at the George Junior Republic and ministered in Coal Town, Punxsutawney and Emlenton, Pa., with Nazarene Churches for a number years.
He is survived by his wife, Layoma, at home; three children, Gerinda D. Dey and husband Kenneth of Fredericksburg, Va., Aubrey F. Darr and wife Dawn of Sharon, Pa., and Aleta H. Welton of Grove City, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral will be Saturday, April 9, at 1 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, Pa., with the Rev. J. Brett Metcalfe, superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Home Cemetery, Wolf Creek Township, with military honors.
