COLUMBUS — John Virgil Sherfey, 45, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in his Columbus home of natural causes.

Born on June 15, 1965, in Alexandria, Va., he attended The Ohio State University and served with the Air National Guard’s 179th Airlift Wing. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Surviving are his parents, James and Pamela (Webber) Sherfey; brothers, James Sherfey Jr., Tom Sherfey, Richard Sherfey and Chad Sherfey; his sister, Sue Webster; six nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.

A prayer service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Ave., Mansfield. Family will receive friends in the funeral home following the prayer service until 5 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Ave., celebrated by the Very Rev. Father Nelson Beaver. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery with graveside military honors.
