BUTLER — Carol A. (Gretten) Thomas, 73, of 21331 Swendal Road, Butler, died at 12:09 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in the ER of Knox Community Hospital from a short illness.

She was born June 8, 1937, in Mansfield, Ohio, and was the daughter and only child of the late Tom and Lena (Kintz) Gretten.

Carol is survived by two sons and their families, Don and Sue Thomas, and Richard and Lauri Thomas, all of Butler; four grandchildren, Donny Thomas II of Upper Lake, Calif., Kristy and husband Brad Tucker of St. Maries, Idaho, Jamie and husband Jeremiah Fields and Richard Thomas, all of Butler; one great-grandson, Zack Fields, also of Butler; and four stepgrandchildren. She is also survived by her aunt, Grace Kintz of Ashland; and her cousin, DeeDee (Kintz) Culler and family of Lucas, with whom she shared a special friendship.

Carol graduated from Lucas High School and worked for over 20 years for the State of Ohio Youth Services, and was employed at the Mohican Youth Center as a corrections officer. She retired July 30, 1999. Carol was a member of the Ohio Genealogical Society and enjoyed researching her family history. She also enjoyed gardening, spending time with family, friends, and her Amish neighbors.

The family will honor her wishes and there will be no observance of calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the OGS Building Fund and mailed in her memory to 611 State Rt. 97 W., Bellville, OH 44813.
