MOUNT VERNON — Andrew E. Lifer, 95, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Fredericktown, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Autumn Health Care in Mount Vernon.
Andrew was born March 7, 1916, in Amity to Arthur Chester Lifer and Bertha Mae (Snyder) Lifer and had spent his lifetime in Knox County. Andrew served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He participated in the invasion of Africa at Algiers, was captured in Tunis and was held in a Prisoner of War camp in Sicily for 26 months. He was retired from Harstine Implement Co. in Fredericktown, where he had served as parts manager for 25 years. Andrew was a member of the Palmyra Church of Christ.
Surviving are his son, R. James Lifer of Fredericktown; his brother-in-law, Harold “Buss” Brubaker; and several nieces and nephews.
Andrew was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth (Saunders) Lifer, in 1981; second wife, Catherine Eileen (Lotz) Lifer, in 2010; brothers, Raymond Lifer, Frederick Lifer; and sisters, Helen Brubaker, Elsie Noll, Evelyn Deckert, Mildred Beaver and Florence Hopwood.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at the Palmyra Church of Christ with Troy Northrop officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour before the funeral service. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
