MOUNT VERNON — Roger E. Chalfant, 67, of Mount Vernon, passed away April 12, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 26, 1943, in Mount Vernon to the late William Edward and Elizabeth Jean (Levers) Chalfant. Roger was a retired Army veteran who served his country in the Vietnam War. He was a talented musician who played the keyboard for the band Autumn Daze.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Donnally) Chalfant; daughter, Diana Lynn Chalfant of Tennessee; sons, David Roger Chalfant of Tennessee and Sean Edward Chalfant of Kentucky; stepson, Stephen Paul Donnally of Mount Vernon; a sister, Cheryl Ann (John) Carmany of Cumberland, Ohio; five grandchildren, Radley, Joshua, Carson, Sean and Christian; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Roby, Madison; and aunt and uncle, Wayne (Annette) Levers of Mount Vernon.

Roger was preceded in death by a brother, John Leroy Chalfant.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Mound View Cemetery. The Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council will conduct military graveside honors.

Memorial contributions may be made in Roger’s name to The American Heart Association.
