MANSFIELD — John W. Atkinson, 82, of Mansfield, died Monday, April 18, 2011, in his home following a long illness.
He was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Mount Morris, Pa., the son of the late John W. and Grace (Wamsley) Atkinson. John retired from General Motors, where he worked in security with 33 years of service. He served two years in the U.S. Navy.
Survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy Atkinson of Mansfield; daughter, Yvonne Waddle; stepdaughter, Judy Bucher; stepsons, Richard Snyder, Jeff Cooper and Bruce McCartney; two granddaughters; two stepgrandsons; and two nieces.
Preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Miller Atkinson; and a sister, Joan Fletcher.
At John’s request, compassionate cremation with a graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 27, at 1 p.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline. Pastor Tj Waters will officiate.
