MOUNT VERNON — Vernon B. Parker Jr., 82, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on April 25, 2011.

He was born Sept. 12, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Vernon B. Parker Sr. and Annabelle (Clark) Parker. Vernon was a member of the Trinity Assembly of God and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma (Jessup) Parker; his children, Linda (Jeff) Collins of North Carolina, Philip S. Parker of Minnesota, Robert M. Parker of Mount Vernon, Vernon B. (Becky) Parker of Fredericktown, Joyce M. Dunham of Mount Vernon, Lisa G. (Kelly) Wengerd of Howard and Patrick Parker of Mount Vernon; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ann and Lucy; and a grandson, Robert Dunham.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Assembly of God, 1051 Beech St., Mount Vernon, with Pastor Don Matolyak officiating. Private family burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council will be held in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is assisting the Parker family with arrangements.
