NASHPORT — A funeral service for SFC Bradley Scott Hughes, 41, of Nashport, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Pastor Chuck Horsley officiating. Burial will follow in Hanover Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.

Brad passed away April 24, 2011, in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. He was born June 22, 1969, in Newark to Larry C. Hughes and Carol S. (Myers) Johnson. Brad was a 1988 graduate of Newark High School. His plans were to retire from the U.S. military in early 2012 after 23 years. He served 19 years in the U.S. Army and four years in the U.S. Marines. He also served in the Desert Storm, two tours in Iraq, involved in the Haiti Earthquake Mission, two tours in Germany, one in Korea, six-month deployment to Africa, and most recently six months in Afghanistan. He was a member of the Newark Moose and the APA Pool League.

He is survived by his loving wife, Leslie A. (Hickman) Hughes; mother, Carol S. (Myers) Johnson of Newark; father, Larry C. (Carol) Hughes of Granville; stepsons, Jordan and Chandler Heiney, both of the home; sister, Kimberly (Maurcio) Calle of Newark; maternal grandmother, Mary Myers of Newark; stepsister, Erin (Michael) Brewer of Columbus; stepbrothers, Ronald (Jessica) Klimkowski and Scott (Trish) Klimkowski, both of Cincinnati; aunt and uncle, Beverly Ann and Forrest Swick of Mount Vernon; father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Melanie Hickman of Newark; brother-in-law, Bryan Hickman of Newark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Ola Hughes; and maternal grandfather, Frederick T. Myers.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.
