MOUNT VERNON — Virginia Mae “Ginnie” Burson, 82, of Mount Vernon died Saturday afternoon, April 30, 2011, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
She was born July 15, 1928, in Bellville, daughter of the late Maurice Goss and Helen (Garber) Goss Black. Ginnie enjoyed crocheting, especially afghans, traveling and taking rides in the countryside. She loved collecting chicken items having collected hundreds over the years. Ginnie also loved visiting with family and friends. Ginnie retired from Weyerhaeuser in Mount Vernon with 29 years of faithful service.
Ginnie is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen (Frank) Adkins of Fredericktown; her son, Dennis D. (Vickie) Burson of Fredericktown; a special granddaughter, Tabitha (Keith) Evans; grandsons, Brian (Cassie) Burson and Timothy D. (Rebecca) Adkins; great-grandchildren, Christopher Evans, Nicholas Burson, Hope Adkins and Tyler Adkins; stepgreat-grandchildren, Chelsey (Matt Brady) Denhart, Chase Blacksten; stepgreat-great-grandchildren, Zoe Brady and Maverick Blacksten; sisters, Meriam Cummings of Newark, Norma Jean (Burt Sr.) Claypool of Mansfield and Mary Ann (Paul) Perry of Mount Vernon; brother, Lawrence (Carol) Goss of Mansfield; sisters-in-law, Donnabelle McPherson, Ruth Rehs, Midge Cox, Mabel (Dale) Mills and Pat Goss; special friends, Jean Waddell, Lucy Starnes and Nancy and Jim Wears; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ginnie was preceded in death by her husband, Florin D. Burson Jr., on Sept. 18, 1983; her stepfather, Buck Black; brothers, George and Roger Goss; and several brothers-in-law.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 4, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
