MOUNT VERNON — Pearl L. Mortimer, 76, of Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital.

Pearl was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Mount Vernon to Irvin and Edith (Hall) Conkle and had spent her lifetime in the Knox County area. She was a member of the Howard Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Bernard Mortimer, whom she married Sept. 16, 1975; her son, James (JoAnna) Litt of Mount Vernon; stepson, Scott (Renee) Mortimer of Carroll; stepdaughter, Kathy (Ronald) Houck of Marengo; grandchildren, Jesse Litt, Cassie Litt and Elle Mortimer; stepgrandchildren, Kaitlind Houck and Dirk Houck; and stepgreat-grandchild, Riley Houck; sister-in-law, Joan Conkle of Mount Vernon; many nieces and nephews; and Lil Buddy (Cristi Gates).

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry L. Litt, in 1972; brothers, Ralph Conkle, Harold Conkle, Carl Conkle, Clyde Conkle and Larry Conkle; and sisters, Mae Albert, Mable Albert, Jean Albert, Leota Baker and Grace Thompson.

A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Pearl L. Mortimer.
