FREDERICKTOWN — Walter E. Hines, 93, of Buena Vista Drive, Fredericktown, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at MedCentral in Mansfield.
He was born Jan. 11, 1918, in Knox County to the late Walter and Lily Hines. Mr. Hines served in the U.S. Army and in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He previously worked for the Foote Foundry in Fredericktown, H.P.M. in Mount Gilead and eventually retired after 20 years as a rural route carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Fredericktown. Mr. Hines was a member of the American Legion Post 500 in Fredericktown and the Fredericktown Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ethel (DeBolt) Hines; two sons, Paul (Sandy) Hines of Frisco, Texas, and Carroll (Judy) Hines of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Linda Hunter of Traverse City, Mich., and Debbie (Mike) Given of Fredericktown; eight grandchildren, Bernadette, Joey, Keith, Brian, Jenny, Chad, Michael and Abby; 12 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Steve Abrams; and a sister, May Hines of San Francisco, Calif.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Abrams; a great-granddaughter; two brothers; and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m. at the Fredericktown First Presbyterian Church, 17 S. Main St., Fredericktown, where friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service. A military service provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be held at the start of the service. The family will observe a private burial at a later date in Forest Cemetery.
