ANIWA, Wis. — William Dale Long, 55, a rare and beautiful soul, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, while under the care of hospice services at home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1955, to Florren and Joan (Springer) Long in Mount Vernon. His early childhood years were lived here in Mount Vernon, the place he considered home. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.

Will’s nine-year battle with lymphoma was faced with determination, strength and hope. His courage and dignity were constant.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Myra Long of Aniwa, Wis.; and his children, Nathan (Erin) of Wausau, Jennifer (Kris Stepney) of Canada, and Matthew (Felicia) of Aniwa, Wis. In addition, Will leaves behind his mother, Joan Long, Mount Vernon; and brothers, Tom(Julia) of Minnesota, and Dave of Momence, Ill.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Florren Long, in 2001.

The family will greet friends on Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. in the parlor of the Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 N. Gay St., Mount Vernon. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church’s sanctuary with the Rev. Denise Marikis officiating.
