LANCASTER — Alma L. Brown, 86, of Lancaster, formerly of New Mexico, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Lanfair Nursing and Care Center in Lancaster following an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Liberal, Kan., a daughter of Nathan and Mabel (Richardson) Hockett Sr. Alma was the former owner of the Happy Day Nursery in Albuquerque, N.M., for several years.

Surviving are her children, Nathan Brown and Doug Brown, both of Farmington, N.M., and Judy Young of Ohio; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Nathan Hockett Jr. of Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Brown; and daughters, Marilyn George and Julia Mallory.

The family will observe a private service at a later date.

The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Alma L. Brown.
