WALHONDING — Russell E. Smith, 80, of Walhonding died May 13, 2011, at his residence.
He was born May 5, 1931, in Fallsbury Township, Licking County, to the late Wayne and Mae (Moran) Smith. He was the owner of R.E. Smith Building and built many homes in the Warsaw and surrounding areas. He was a 1949 graduate of Union High School.
He is survived by his wife, Ruie (Mercer) Smith, whom he married Sept. 9, 1950. Also surviving is a son, Dean A. Smith of Clyde; three daughters, Diane Jones and Donna (Larry) Smith of Warsaw, and Darlene (Mark) Wills of Fresno; four grandsons, Ryan Smith of Columbus, Adam Smith of Gahanna, Justin Smith of Castalia and Brett Smith of Toledo; a sister, Mildred Smith of Newark; two brothers, Everett (Charlotte) Smith of Heath and Merlin (Elva) Smith of Hanover; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Smith of Newark and Janet (Paul) Doughty of Conesville; a brother-in-law, Max (Ann) Mercer of Walhonding; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Smith; his father and mother-in-law, Forrest Lee and Erma (Beatty) Mercer; son-in-law, Jerry B. Jones; and sister-in-law, Jean (Mercer) Mosholder.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Denny Trimmer officiating. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery at Warsaw.
