MOUNT VERNON — Margaret Mary Curry, 89, of Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sept. 30, 1921, in Mount Vernon to the late George and Mary (Blubaugh) Omlor. Margaret was a 1939 graduate of St. Vincent de Paul High School and a 1942 graduate of Mount Carmel School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse for Mercy Hospital, the Ohio Eastern Star Home and retired as a nurse from Kenyon College health services. Margaret was the 1939 Knox County Women’s tennis champion. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and The Station Break of Mount Vernon.
She is survived by her children, Nancy (Bill) Rupp of Fredericktown, George (Sherry) Curry of Mount Vernon, Susan (Michael) Duffy of Ingleside, Ill., Mary (Rick) Marti of Bellville, Cindy (Ralph) Fogle of Mount Vernon, Michael (Marie) Curry of Mount Vernon and Douglas (Dee) Curry of Oxford, Ohio; 24 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, L. D. Curry, whom she married on Aug. 17, 1946; a son, Kevin Curry; a granddaughter, Jena Blake; a great-grandson, Braylon Anthony Blake; two brothers, George “Snub” Omlor and Ralph Omlor; and two sisters, Anna White and Eileen Gillespie.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond will be celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
