MOUNT VERNON — Debra L. “Debbie” Greene, 55, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark.
She was born Feb. 20, 1956, in Mount Vernon, a daughter of late Richard “Dick” and Betty (Adams) Shuff and Bob Beck of Mount Vernon. In her childhood, Debbie was actively involved with showing her horses in 4-H and she was Junior Miss. Debbie earned degrees in Social Work and Early Childhood Education from Heidelberg and the Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Debbie was the director at the Carol Strawn Center in Newark and she had just received her certification as a Dementia Care Provider. She will be remembered for always being there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and her big heart. She was known by many, loved by all. Her smile and kind heart captivated everyone. Debbie was the life of the party, she never knew a stranger. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, shopping, and laying out by the pool with friends. Debbie was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her first grandchild in October.
Family was Debbie’s first priority; she is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Michael D. Greene, whom she married on April 22, 1978; a daughter, Jayme (Mitch) McDonald of Howard; her canine companion, Pearl; and many friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 1, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
