GAMBIER — Nina Floretta Wise, 94, of Zion Road, Gambier, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Rising Sun, Ohio, to the late Franklin and Annie (Bennett) Spurgeon. Nina helped her husband, Clarence A. Wise, whom she married on June 22, 1931, run the family farm in Gambier. She served as a 4-H advisor and enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, but most important to her was being a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
She is survived by her two sons, Larry Wise of Gambier and Tom (Carol) Wise of Gambier; 12 grandchildren, Melony Nino, Brian (Diana) Wise, Annie (Jason) Steel, Emily Wise, Corby (Carrie Martin) Wise, Jessica Mann, Lori (Brad) Boval and Lisa Lohr; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence A. Wise; a son, Wesley Wise; a grandson, Jay Wise; and eight brothers and sisters, Iva Spurgeon, Arthur Spurgeon, Nellie Morgan, Stellie Pierce, Hattie Hutton, Hazel Edwards, Bennett Spurgeon and Florene Spurgeon.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. Bob Pelfrey will be officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier.
